Pre-university I studied the Piano and achieved Grade 8 with ABRSM.
I studied Music: Composition at York St John University, where I would frequently achieve firsts for my composition work and portfolios.

This course, rich in content, allowed me to develop many of the musical skills I still call upon to this day:
- Ensemble participation and Ensemble Leadership
- Composing to a brief
- Composing with technology and mediums differing from the classical score
- Employing different compositional styles in my work
- Collaborative Projects, such as scoring a radio play and scoring a short film
- Frequent performances with many different styles/genres, mediums and target audiences. Some of the venues I have performed in while at university are; York Theatre Royal, Harrogate Hall, York Comic-Con, pub open mic nights, and the streets of York themselves.
After university I began Piano tuition which you can read more about here.

While the Piano is my first study instrument, I fell in love with Japanese Taiko Drumming at university (Shirobara Taiko Group), so a first priority was to find a group that I could join after university. Luckily, Yōkisune Leicester Taiko accepted me into their performance group where we took our drumming to various Japan Conventions, Graduation Ceremonies at De Montfort Hall, and the Storm Festival, where we had the pleasure of performing alongside a giant puppet made of waste materials retrieved from the ocean.
After my degree I was given the opportunity to work on various projects with local performers at the Attenborough Arts Centre in Leicester. Some required compositions for their lockdown live-streamed performances and some required some live performing on the piano, often improvised. A picturesque example of one such performances was used on my website homepage, where myself and drummer James Sykes improvised an entire set based on our backdrop; a martian wasteland. The performance can be watched here: https://www.facebook.com/attenborougharts/videos/438251387532996
In 2022 I entered the Leicester Music Festival’s Open Composition Competition and won 1st place with my piece for solo piano called A Long Told Tale. The title refers to the fact that the main theme of the piece was an idea that I’d had long ago but never developed into a full composition.
Starting in 2023 I began taking commissions on Fiverr, composing for people’s games of Dungeons and Dragons, and other such games. This has been a great adventure because I love hearing about people’s games and coming up with music that will enhance an encounter. Read more about my Fiverr work here.
